Great Gift: Childrens book “Heads” by Matthew Van Fleet

Have you seen the latest Book by Matthew Van Fleet?  The guy has a gift for writing and illustrating great children’s books.  Heads may be the best one yet! It is an interactive book where the child gets to pull tabs and lift flaps to discover special surprises within the book.  I couldn’t get over how cute the illustrations are and how fun it is to read through (and I am an adult!).  This book would make a great gift for a child of an age that you could trust not to rip the flaps.  Adult supervision would be needed with younger children.   Either way this is one you will enjoy reading and exploring with them and I have a feeling it is one that you will be asked to read over and over again!

New Find: Hello Hanna Placemats to Keep Kids Busy

I stumbled upon these great Hello Hanna Placemats today and thought they were really cute.  Who doesn’t need a great way to keep kids happy and busy at the dinner table? Use these while waiting for food at a restaurant or at home. Choose a theme (robot, girl or jungle animals), and kids can customize their place setting with stickers. The place settings also help kids learn about where to put the fork, knife and spoon. I also love the idea of using these for theme parties.  They are a fun activity as well as a decoration. A pack of 8 placemats and 8 sticker sheets sells for $14.95 at Hello Hanna.

Piggy Paint Nail Polish

Have you ever wanted to paint your little girls nails but were concerned about the chemicals that it would expose her to?  About a year and a half ago we discovered Piggy Paint. Since I have 5 girls (ages 2-12) painting nails is a popular activity in our home.  I was pretty concerned, though, about the ingredients in nail polishes and didn’t care for my girls having it on their nails.  I certainly didn’t want the younger ones, who might put their hands in their mouths, to use it. My sister told me about finding Piggy Paint which is water based nail polish and is formulated from natural ingredients. There are no toxic chemicals; it’s free of formaldehyde, toluene, phthalates, Bisphenol A, ethyl acetate and acetone.  We bought a bottle and some nail polish remover and went to town painting 8 sets of hands and 8 sets of toes.  My girls loved it and so did I.

The nail polish comes in great colors for both kids and moms and dries hard and lasts for several days.  We now have several colors and it is the only polish we use.  The nail polish remover also works great and is not smelly like most others are. You can order Piggy Paint from their website or find a retailer here.  We think you’ll like Piggy Paint as much as we do!

I’ve been wanting to do this

I love to discover new products that are helpful and make life a bit easier. I like to think of myself as a somewhat hip and on top of it momma (to six kiddos). I love to try out new things and even more than that I love to share those things with others, especially if I know it will make their lives just a bit easier. It’s always exciting to come across things that solve a problem, help make you more productive or that you just love. I really enjoy spending time to seek out cool and creative items.

So here is my plan: I am always thinking “Wouldn’t it be great if someone invented… (fill in the blank)?” So I’d like to review and feature the things that I find that I love and that my family uses and enjoys. Some of these things may be new inventions that I think are fabulous or older tried and true products that are great. Since I am always sending emails to friends and family about my finds I thought I would just start a blog about these things. I will start with some of my all time favorite finds and take it from there. This should be fun!
