Taking Care of Yourself Tuesday: Summer’s Coming! A Mom’s Guide to Getting In Shape

I’ve decided to start a weekly post that is dedicated to helping moms remember to take good care of themselves.

As a busy mom of 6 I often forget to set aside time, and even money, to take care of myself, but I have realized that when I don’t it hurts me and it hurts those in my care.  So I hope to encourage you, as I am learning myself, to do things that rejuvenate yourself.  Motherhood is a long journey and you need to be strong and ready for it.

Join me each week as we “Take Care of Ourselves Tuesdays.” We’ll discuss ways to set aside time and take better care of ourselves.

I don’t know about you but when the first warm days show up in Spring I start thinking about how Summer is right around the corner and how hot it will be.  Hot weather means I want to wear a lot less clothing and that makes me start thinking about how I am going to look in shorts and tank tops.  You think about that too right?

It’s a challenge for a mom to find time to fit in a workout and take care of herself but it is vitally important.  We’re not just talking about how you look here but how you feel and your health.  Exercise and eating right are key for you to have energy and stay healthy to be able to take care of your kids the best way possible.  It’s never selfish for you to take care of yourself physically and it sets a great example to your kids of what a healthy person does.

No matter what shape you are in it is possible to loose weight and tone up in time for Summer.  For the Past 6 weeks my husband and I have been doing the Power 90 workouts and I have seen amazing results! I love that they are short (30-45 minutes a day).  It is a good intense workout but you slowly work up to it and after a couple weeks you’ll start to feel stronger and see muscle definition.  I really like that this is a complete body workout which tones you all over.

Power 90 has both a cardio workout and a sculpting workout with weights or bands.  You alternate these each day and the cardio workout includes a section to focus on your abs.

Some other workouts that I like for busy moms are:

  • Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred which progresses you through a body sculpting workout that also builds your stamina and fitness level over the course of 30 days.
  • Zumba is also a fun workout if you like to dance but it is a bit longer and lots of cardio without using any weights.
  • Power Yoga with Adrienne Reed is a great yoga series if you like yoga.  You can choose each day from a 20, 40 or 60 minute session in each of the DVDs which are Flexibility, Core Power and Fat Burning.

So are you getting ready for Summer yet? What are your favorite workouts?

Annie’s New Rising Crust Pizza {Win One to Try}

We have a semi-weekly pizza night in our family.  Usually I will make the pizza myself to make sure the ingredients are healthy but sometimes I just want something quick to pop in the oven. So when Moms Meet contacted me about trying out Annies’s new certified organic rising crust pizza I was happy to do so.

We have been fans of Annie’s products for years now.  If you need quick and easy meals (and what mom doesn’t at one time or another?) but still want to serve healthy food then Annie’s is a great option!  We also really love their snack foods for after school or on the go!

We baked the new organic rising crust pizza and it smelled amazing!  Everyone dug in while it was still warm and agreed it tasted just as good as some of our favorite pizza restaurants.  My kids LOVED it and have since asked for it on several occasions!  The crust, in particular, was a huge hit and knowing that it has 8g of whole grains per serving made me feel good about serving it to my family.

I think you will find Annie’s rising crust pizza to be better than other frozen pizza options both in taste and in health.  Annie’s uses 100% real cheese, made with milk from cows not treated with the growth hormone rBST*.  Annie’s pizza also features meats with no nitrates or nitrites added (except for naturally occurring nitrates in sea salt or celery juice powder).

Annie’s Rising Crust Pizza is available in four flavors, including Uncured Pepperoni, Four Cheese, Supreme, and Spinach & Mushroom. They are all ready to eat in 25 minutes or less with a crispier or softer crust depending on how you bake it.

Would you like to WIN some Annie’s certified organic Rising Crust Pizza to try?  3 lucky winners will each receive a coupon for a free Annie’s pizza! To enter fill out the Rafflecopter form below.  If you are reading this in an email or in a feed reader then click here to enter.

What Moms Love Weekly

It’s been a few weeks but the What Moms Love Weekly is back!  This week I am loving a long weekend, more hugs than normal from kids who don’t hug so much, short sleeve shirts, pastel colors and a risen Savior.  How about you? What are you loving this week? I’d love to hear about it! Here are some favorite finds this week:

1. Brinware– There are all kinds of concerns about BPA in plastics. You can look for BPA free plastics or you can just use glass. Brinware makes durable, strong tempered glass plates that come with a removable silicone sleeve for added protection and slip resistance.  They have adorable designs on them and are Microwavable and Dishwasher safe.

2. Friendly Rooster Kids Shoes Site– Friendly Rooster is a great online kids shoe store with some of the cutest styles around. I especially love the Morgan & Milo brand shoes shown above.  They hold up really well and are comfy and cute at the same time.  Check out Friendly Rooster’s other brands too! There is something for everyone.

3. BabyLit Board Books–  Here come the classics…for babies & toddlers.  You love Jane Austin, Shakespear and more but they are too much for little ones.  Until now.  These cute board books tell the classic stories like Pride & Prejudice and Romeo & Juliet in simplified little kids ways (with counting, colors, etc…).  Both mom and baby will get a kick out of these books!

4. Ubbi Diaper Pails– These cans of steel are sleek and modern and keep odors at bay.  You can customize your pail with peel and stick decals to match the decor of any nursery.  The Ubbi’s oval shape means you can tuck it into a tight space.  It seems to me like they thought of everything when designing this diaper pail.  It even has a child lock to prevent little ones from messing with it.

5. Spooner Boards– I want one of these! It’s like a skateboard without wheels.  There are so many ways you can use it and it looks like a ton of fun.  It’s on my list for my kids birthday’s this year! Check out the videos here of how they work and how much fun you can have with them. Little kids to adults will enjoy these Spooner boards!
