Day 16

Moms

I did not have the opportunity to see The Dunstan Baby Language DVD until shortly before my youngest was born.  I really wish it had been available for the previous 5 kids!  It especially would have helped for the fussier ones.  It really is genius!  The DVD describes to you how to tell what the sounds of your baby’s cry mean.  Are they hungry, sleepy, need to be burped, have gas, or uncomfortable?  The examples and real cries on the DVD are helpful in learning what to listen for.  I really do believe that this eliminated a lot of frustration and crying with my youngest as an infant.  I would highly recommend this to new moms (and dads) as well as seasoned ones.  The faster you figure out what your baby is “saying” the happier you and he/she will be.
This DVD makes a great gift for expecting moms or moms with newborns.  You have to start early with this or it doesn’t work as well.

Babies

This Sassy Car Wash Bath Toy was a hit in our house with both girls and boys. The cars can squirt and pour and the track floats in the water.  You can squirt the cars as they go by with the spout.  The whole toy hangs up to dry and the cars fit inside the net to keep the bathtub tidy.  This is for 9 months and up.

Kids

Want a unique gift for kids?  How about KIDZ Placemats by Modern-Twist.  Modern-Twist is all about bringing art to the table and they have some fabulously modern things for adults but I stumbled upon their kids placemats and think they are great.  They have some amazing designs.  I purchased 2 of the Alphabet Animals mats for my 2 and 5 year old.  They have been enjoying identifying the animals and letters at every meal. My 7 year old loves the Kat in the City placemat.
The cool thing about these mats is that they are made from silky food-grade, hand silk-screened silicone.  Each one has a clear base so the artwork really stands out. You can roll these mats up and they won’t crack or break.  Plus they are a non-porous,  germ-free surface for kids to play and eat at.  I am thinking they will be great to throw in a diaper bag or purse to take when we eat out to cover icky tables.
My kids favorite part may be that you can color on these with washable or dry erase markers! Just clean them off with a damp cloth or rinse.

Day 14

Moms

Moms need shoes right?  Well TOMS shoes give to more than just moms. For every pair of shoes purchased from TOMS a pair is also given to a child in need.  I don’t currently own a pair of TOMS shoes but I want to.  I ask just about everyone I see with them on how they like them and I have heard nothing but great things.  Most people say that are incredibly comfortable.  So they are on my wishlist this year.

Babies

Can you call shoes yummy?  These are so adorable!  I just can’t get over how sweet they are.  Check them out at Zuzii. Available in sizes o up to 6-9 months.  Here is what they say about their shoes:

“Our unique handmade footwear is designed with your baby’s comfort in mind. From the plush hand dyed stretch cotton uppers to the tri-layer soles, consisting of a layer of ortho cush-cork sandwiched between a leather insole and an anti-skid rubber sole. These carefully selected materials combine to create a remarkably lightweight and balanced shoe perfect for your little one, available in eleven beautiful colors.”

Kids

Do you have any nieces, nephews, grandkids or other kids in your life that you are away from and you want to remind them of your love for them even when you are not together?  Recordable Storybooks from DaySpring would be a great gift for the kids you love that are separated from you by miles.  Even if you aren’t separated by miles, but want a special gift, these books would make a wonderful gift!
The recordable books are just precious with cute pictures and sweet stories.  It’s very easy to record your voice reading the book.  All you need is a few minutes and a quiet room and you’re done.

The book “All Day Long with Jesus” teaches kids about how Jesus is near to us at all times not matter where we are or what we are doing.  Other titles in the collection are “Bedtime Prayers and Promises”, “I Love You Head to Toe”, and “God’s Christmas Promise.”

Day 13

Moms

Most moms these days have some type of device that needs a protective cover like an iPhone, Blackberry, iPad, Kindle, laptop or another device.  I really like that GelaSkins offers removable covers for protecting and customizing your portable devices. They feature stunning, photo-quality graphics ranging from fine art prints to contemporary urban images.  If you would rather use your own image you can upload it to customize your own cover.

You could scan your child’s artwork and upload it to create a one-of-a-kind cover for your device or give it to mom or grandma as a special gift. Visit GelaSkins to see all of the designs and customizable options.

Babies
Babies love keys and moms (well, at least this mom) are often tempted to just hand the keys over to keep baby quiet and entertained while standing in line at the grocery store.  Right?  But keys have been lots of places and a baby’s mouth should not be one of them.  So when I came across these adorable, non-toxic, stainless steel Kleynamils I thought they were a fantastic idea.  You could just stash these in your purse for those “baby needs a distraction” moments and hand them these “keys.”  They sell for $24 and you can have them engraved too.

Kids

I saw this Schylling Sock Monkey Umbrella the other day and thought it was so cute!  My kids love umbrellas and because of that they make great gifts for them.  I like to find umbrellas that are characters or styles I know my kids will like.  Amazon has a good selection of umbrellas for kids by brands like Western Chief and Stephen Joseph.  They have everything from ladybugs and Hello Kitty to Batman and robots. Many of them have matching rain gear and rainboots too.

Mommy Kudos Gift Guide Day 11

Day 11

Moms
Moms are often so busy taking care of others that there is little time to spend on themselves.  That is one reason why I think a SpaFinder Gift Certificate would be a lovely gift for any mom.
SpaFinder Gift Certificates are the perfect gift for every occasion. The gift certificates can be printed or shipped to the recipient. Accepted at over 6,000 spas around the globe, they can be used for ANY spa treatment of the recipient’s choice such as relaxing massages, luxurious facials, fine beauty products, and more.  Ahh, sounds amazing!

Babies

These handmade nesting bowls by Your Moms Designs are so much fun to play with. Little ones love the bright colors and you can stack them inside themselves or turn them over and stack them up high.  They are soft and yet sturdy.  For a chance to win a set (or another item) enter here.

Constructive Eating ConstructionChildrens Plate for use with Constructive Eating Utensils

Do you know any little boy who wouldn’t love to play with his food with a bulldozer, fork lift and front loader?  These utensils from Constructive Eating give them permission to do just that.  They come together as a set of 3 or individually as a bull dozer pusher, a fork lift fork and a front loader spoon.  My son received these as a gift when he was 3 and has used them for just about every meal since (he is now 6).  In fact there have even been some tears shed when they were still getting cleaned in the dishwasher. We just recently discovered that the company has a plate out that goes with the utensils.  We haven’t used it yet but it looks as if it would be a lot of fun.  It is a divided plate with a ramp and a place for the utensils to sit. Oh , and all of these products are PVC, phthalate, and BPA free.

Day 9

Moms

I live in Texas and Texans love their cowboy boots (well, most Texans anyway).  I have been a bit resistant to joint the masses of cowboy boot wearers in this state.  That was until I came across these super cute Stadium Stompers for women.  They are cowboy boots that are also rainboots and they coordinate with your favorite football team colors.  Wear them rain or shine and be in high fashion.  How great is that?!

Babies

I recently came across Kathe Kruse toys and dolls and cannot get over how adorable they are.  It is so hard to pick just one of them.
Kathe Kruse makes toys for babies and toddlers that are soft, colorful and child friendly.  They are made with only natural ingredients such as cotton and sheep wool.  Kathe Kruse Organics make toys that are nature-friendly and fun to play with.

Kids

Here’s a great book suggestion for the kids in your life: Bugs by the Numbers.  This book tells you all about bugs with numeric facts.  It is a clever and eye-catching way to learn about bugs. After seeing this book and reading it I have added it to my son’s gift list for Christmas. I am certain that he will get a big kick out of this book.
